Build Tropical is a publication about building, buying, and living in Costa Rica. We respect your privacy and keep things simple. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it.

What we collect

When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your name and email address. That is it. We do not ask for your phone number, location, payment information, or anything else.

When you visit our website, our hosting provider (Ghost Pro) automatically logs basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. This is standard web server behavior and is used solely for site performance and security.

How we use your information

Your email address is used for one purpose: sending you our newsletter. We publish once per week. We do not send promotional emails, upsells, or partner offers. We do not sell, rent, share, or trade your email address with anyone. Ever.

Email tracking

Our email platform (Ghost) tracks whether emails are opened and which links are clicked. We use this data in aggregate to understand what content resonates with readers. We do not use it to build individual profiles or target specific subscribers.

Cookies

Build Tropical uses only essential cookies required for the site to function — session management and authentication for logged-in members. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics services such as Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel.

Your rights

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of every email. Once you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you immediately.

If you want your data deleted entirely — including your name, email, and any associated records — email us and we will remove it within 30 days.

Under the GDPR and similar regulations, you also have the right to access, correct, or port your personal data. Contact us at the address below for any of these requests.

Children

Build Tropical is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify subscribers by email.
